How To Build An Email List Without A Website

While I am a huge proponent for websites as the ultimate space to build wealth online, I understand that not everyone wants to manage or own a website. For those looking to gain a following and leverage assets online, let’s discuss how to build an email list without a website.

What is an Email List?

An email list is a collection of email addresses that have been gathered from individuals who have expressed interest in receiving information about a particular topic or from a particular source. Email lists are commonly used by businesses and organizations to communicate with their audience and share news, promotions, and other relevant information.

While it may not be as fun as posting to social media, email list hold a ton of value. There is a reason why everywhere you go folks are asking for your email address.

Email lists provide direct access and foster deeper connections.

How To Build An Email List Without A Website

Step 1: Choose An Email Service Provider

The first step in building an email list without a website is to choose an email service provider. An email service provider (ESP) is a company that allows you to send emails to a large number of subscribers at once as well as keep track of emails.

There are several email service providers to choose from, but some of the most popular include:

  • Mailchimp
  • Constant Contact
  • GetResponse
  • ConvertKit

Beehiiv and Substack as Email Service Providers

Beehiiv and Substack are the newer and trendier kids on the block but offer a seamless introduction into the world of email lists and newsletters without the hassle of web design or coding experience. They are not built to do as much of the heavy lifting as platforms like Convert kit or Mailchimp, but are just as capable and perfect for a solopreneur or digital nomad.

I have used both options and find that if you enjoy writing as a means to connect; choose Substack. If you enjoy creating a newsletter in hopes of building a profitable business model; choose Beehiiv.

Step 2: Create A Landing Page

The next step in building an email list without a website is to create a landing page. A landing page is a single page on the internet that is designed to capture a visitor’s information, such as their name and email address.

There are several tools you can use to create a landing page like Click Funnels or even Google Sites. You must first decide what type of landing page appeals to you. A very busy and vibrant page or a simplistic subscription call to action.

if simplicity speaks to you, then Beehiiv or Substack could do the job just fine as landing pages are part of the platform, but if more intricacy and design is desired you may want a specific software.

Products typically favor bolder designs and calls to action that offer access to more right on the other side.
Social proof or deeper explanation can also help people decide if entering their email is something they want to do.

Step 3: Offer A Lead Magnet

Once you’ve created your landing page, the next step is to offer a lead magnet or “freebie”. A lead magnet is a free resource that you offer to your subscribers in exchange for their email address. You can get creative with this section especially considering you are building this email list without a website to offer more content. Here is where you can leverage other digital assets like ebooks or digital templates as incentives.

Some examples of lead magnets include:

  • Ebooks
  • Templates ( think planners, logbooks, trackers, etc. )
  • Webinars
  • Courses ( mini-email courses are an option also)

Step 4: Promote Your Landing Page

The final step in building an email list without a website is to promote your landing page. Since we won’t be leverage search engine optimization or a blog, this where we must come up with a space to attract potential email subscribers. Do not underestimate the power of meeting people in person and networking as ways to grown an email list, but if you prefer the internet……

There are several ways to do this, including:

  • Social media
  • Paid advertising
  • Guest blogging
  • Podcast interviews
  • YouTube videos

Don’t overthink this step because the truth is there are billions of humans and you only need a few to build a successful email list without a website. Just consider the list a way to speak directly to internet friends who share an interest or passion for the same things you do.

Why Building An Email List Is Important

An email list is a valuable digital asset for several reasons. First, it allows you to connect with your audience on a personal level. When someone signs up for your email list, they are giving you permission to contact them directly. This means you can send them targeted messages that speak directly to their interests and needs.

Second, an email list can help you promote your products or services. By sending out targeted emails to your subscribers, you can drive more traffic to your website, increase your sales, and grow your business.

Finally, an email list is a great way to build relationships with your audience over time. By providing them with valuable content and engaging with them regularly, you can establish yourself as an authority in your niche and build trust with your subscribers.
